Quote of the day

“We must do theatre, to find out who we are, and to discover who we could become.”

About me

Hello! My name is Ivan Taylor. I’ve been doing theatre for about 6 years consecutively now. I acted in my first play when I was 6 years old in The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe and Miracle on 34th street with Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre. I then, unfortunately stopped acting. My interest in acting returned when I was in high school. I took theatre classes at my small high school in Buhl, Alabama, Sipsey Valley. Where Mrs. Amber Barnes was my teacher for two years. We were able to put on a small show, Check Please take 2. My interest grew participating in all the activities and going to see some shows on field trips with the class. My senior year of high school, I decided to attend college at Shelton State Community College. I applied for every scholarship that was available, including a theatre scholarship. I was declined from all of them, except the Theatre scholarship. I guess you could say, it was fate. I was admitted into the Theatre program, and there is where I really started to take Theatre seriously. I was instructed by Mr. Michael Carr and Ms. Rhonda Wooley. I was in shows like, Ragtime, A Christmas Carol, Once upon a Mattress, Our Town, and many more. I also joined the music program to work on my vocals as I was doing musical theatre. I was a part of the Shelton Singers and took vocal lessons from Dr. Mark Brown.

After my time at shelton, I decided to further my education at The University of Montevallo. I am currently obtaining a BA in Theatre. My biggest contribution to theatre is acting. During my time here at UM, I have branched out to hair and makeup and directing. I have found a new love for both, and hope to gain more experience in the future. What I would like to gain from my time here at UM is a sense of direction with my future career. When I first started school here, I wanted to be an actor and nothing else. But now I love directing, writing, and working with film. My dream is to direct or act in a big project or movie, and win a prestigious award.
